Hello everyone,
Hope you are all healthy and well! This month, I'd like to share dates to watch for Canadians and webinars I'll be hosting. Here we go. - June 15th: Tax filing deadline for sole proprietors or those whose spouse is sole-proprietors. File on time to avoid penalties. Take advantage of interest relief offered by CRA. Check out the details here. - June 30th: Deadline to claim BC Recovery Benefit. This is a tax-free benefit, so make sure you claim it if you are eligible. Details about the benefit can be found here. PS: File your 2019 tax return. - July 2nd: Deadline to apply for BC Recovery Grant. This is a new deadline; the previous deadline was August 31st. It looks like they're anticipating the funds to run out faster than they thought. Hurry and apply if you are eligible. Details here. PS: You need to file your 2019 and 2020 tax returns. - July 30th and October 29th: If you have filed your 2020 tax return, have a child under 6, and your family net income is below $120,000, you may receive additional child benefit on these dates, up to $300/child. This is a tax-free benefit. Details here. Bottom line is, file your taxes on time; you will avoid penalties and interest plus you will automatically receive benefits you are entitled to. :) If you still haven't filed your taxes yet and you don't like doing it, let me do it for you. Contact me for a quick tax interview and an estimate. Who knows, perhaps you don't need my service because you can file the return yourself. :)

Happy Mother's Day to all moms out there! I'm thankful for my mom (and dad) who raised my siblings and I. As a mom, I'm grateful to be given a chance to be a mom. :)
A few days have passed since our tax deadline, April 30th. If you or your spouse are self-employed, you have until June 15th to file. If you received COVID-19 benefit, your taxable income is under $75,000, and you have balance owing, please file on-time to be granted interest relief. See here for CRA's posting. If you or someone you know needs to catch up on taxes to take advantage of this interest relief, or to ensure that benefits will not be disrupted, please email or call me (604-728-5139). For this month's tax tips, I thought I would re-cap 2020 new tax items. 1. If you are an employee and you worked from home in 2020, you may be able to claim home office expenses. See here. 2. Have you heard about the new Canada Training Credit? It's brand new for the 2020 tax return! This is a new refundable tax credit. Check your 2019 Notice of Assessment to see if you have it. Here's information from CRA. 3. Did you pay for any digital subscription? If so, you may qualify for digital news subscription tax credit. Maximum non-refundable tax credit to be claimed is $500. Here's CRA's reference page. That's all for now. Have a great month! |
